Is there a way to put my account on hold if I will be out of town for a few weeks?

We ask that you do not. We are a local nonprofit trying to feed the community in need by coming together as a whole to feed one another. If you cancel or pause your subscription, we will not be able to feed as many people that week. We ask that you please see our first mission is to feed those struggling around us. It’s important to keep the mission going so that orders continue the same. A small change such as yours, could potentially cost 2-3 families their food for the week. We will be happy to provide you with a receipt that you have donated those shares for your records when you are not able to pick them up. Please contact us info@produceproject.org if you’d like a receipt (the information needed will be the dates you were not able to pick up)

What if I am out of town or forget to pick up my share? Can you replace it?

Please try to remember to pick up your share on the day you order or send a friend. We donate ALL produce at the end of each produce day. Replacing it would be difficult on our budget, as we generate donations, not profits. It would mean paying to make you two shares on one sale.

With that said, we DO NOT offer a refund or replacement for any forgotten or left behind shares.

Do I need to be considered low-income to buy a share?

No! The shares are for everyone. We buy our produce fresh every morning based on the number of shares that we sell. So, you are not "taking" produce from someone who needs it more. The more we sell, the more donations we generate. So by buying, you are helping families who are food insecure.

Can I volunteer?

Absolutely. We are always looking for new volunteers. Please see our "volunteer" page for links to sign up for a shift. Please also feel free to email info@produceproject.org for more information or if you are looking to set up a group volunteer day.

Is your produce local?

We buy all of our produce from farmers at the Raleigh Farmer’s Market. Our shares will have a minimum of 13 different items and multiples of each, with a mix of local, organic, and traditional produce. Our farmers do have items imported, which helps us to keep our shares varied all year round. We do put a priority when buying locally grown when we can, and we are always looking for opportunities to partner with local farmers.

Please email info@produceproject.org if you know of any local growers who would like to be involved with our mission.

How much will I get in my share?

Typically, when our supporters see a full share for the first time, their eyes go wide in disbelief. We guarantee at least 13 different items - a mix of both fruits and vegetables. The shares are often large enough for most customers to donate back what they will not use, which gets added to the donation wall to go to those in need. However, take it all if you can! Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook to see our shares posted each week. This can give you a good idea of what to expect.

Is the produce organic?

We try to buy organic produce when possible from local farms or the farmer's market. However, we do have to keep prices low to generate donations for families in need. We focus more on buying in our non-profit budget than making sure the produce is certified organic.

What are my payment options?

The Produce Project is accepting Paypal and Credit Cards currently. We are working (right now!) on being able to accept EBT. Accepting EBT is important because our goal is to get healthy food into the hands of families that really need it. Contact us if you'd like to get involved to help on this important project. Buying shares in advance is what allows us to make sure people get so much for their money. We don't buy a pallet and hope to sell it before it goes bad; we know exactly how much to buy on pickup day since we know how many shares have been sold.

Can I donate a share to a family in need?

Yes, you can! We’ll even cut the cost a bit if you do. To donate a share to a family in need, you just buy a donated share in our store for $15. These shares will go directly to our donation wall to be picked up by our non-profit partners. They will then be given to families in need, right here in NC.

Can I pick and choose what’s in my share?

In a way - you can pick what you take home from the share.

Each share is made identical, and at pickup, you'll decide what you want to keep and what you want to leave for donation. Sure, you can take it all, and if your family can eat that much in a week, great! But most families find it's too much, so they take what they want and donate the rest. Everything left behind is donated, so feel good about sharing your share!

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to see the share photos before you come in for pickup. You will also be emailed a photo of the share on your pickup day.
